Description:
St. John's Point lighthouse marks the tip of a narrow peninsula that juts into Donegal Bay to the east of Killybegs. It's an attractive little tower which is surrounded by lush green fields which drop abruptly into the sea by way of small cliffs and rocky foreshores. The grounds of the lighthouse are marked by a wall which follows the contours of the land to form an attractive undulating shape.
In this image I used the slope of a hill to lead the eye up to the tower. The small purple flowers add colour to the scene, and I particularly enjoy the meeting of the grass, wall and sky. The lighthouse tower itself juts up into a clear sky which is just starting to cloud up, perhaps threatening a storm.
