Description:
This is a simple image that would be wholly unremarkable if it weren't for the quality of the light. It was made on a windy day, and the sky was mostly overcast with the occasional break in the clouds. As a result, the light was flat and uninteresting most of the time.
As I was driving past, the sun broke through the clouds for an instant and illuminated this scene. I stopped immediately and got the camera set up, but the clouds had shifted and the light was gone. Knowing that if I waited a while I'd be rewarded, I took my time to set up and decide on my composition. After a few minutes, the sun broke through again and I made this image.
I particularly like the feeling of age in this scene - the trees are windbeaten and what was once a stone wall is now overgrown with moss and partially collapsed. The two main lines of motion in the image - the wall extending to the top left, and the bough extending from the top right create an easy path for the eye through the scene.
