An Tiaracht is an island of many names. Also known as Inishtearaght, The Tearaght and Tearaght Island, all these names mean the same thing - 'The Westerly', or 'Westerly Island'. This is a pretty good description, as not only is it the westernmost of the Blasket Islands, it's also pretty much the westernmost point of Europe, with the exception of the nearby Foze Rocks.
In my opinion, the lighthouse on the island, which was constructed in 1870 and made automatic in 1988, is the most dramatic of any of the lighthouses around the coast. It's also one of the least well known as it's invisible from the mainland - sitting as it does on the western end of the rock.
The island is a pair of jagged, steep-sided pyramids reaching a maximum height of 656 feet above the sea. Joining them is a saddle pierced by a natural tunnel. The light itself is at a height of 275 feet on top of a 55 foot tower.
This image was made during a maintenance flight out to the lighthouse, but due to the stormy conditions we were unable to land. However, it did provide me an opportunity to photograph the island as it was pounded by an angry sea.

Irish customers can enjoy free shipping on all orders with no minimum spend required. For the rest of the world, we charge only a portion of the actual shipping cost. 

We produce all our prints to order, so you can be sure you're getting the best quality work to hang on your wall. As a result, in busy times it can take a while to process the orders. In the worst case, which is generally during the peak months of July-September, it can take 4-6 weeks to receive large framed prints. Large canvases generally take 2-3 weeks. Unframed prints are generally also 2-3 weeks at worst.

We aim to get prints out as quickly as possible, so we would expect and hope that you would receive them earlier than the above timeframes. If you have a particular need to get a print quickly, please let us know in the order notes and we'll prioritize it for you, or you can email us at info@petercox.ie.

Prints are well-packaged and in the unlikely event that it arrives damaged, we'll send a replacement free of charge. 

When your order ships, you'll receive an email with your tracking number.

I saw this print in his gallery in 2014 never forgot about it. I decided to order a “ready to hang” print and am so happy I did!
It arrived quickly with no damage because it was wrapped so carefully! It’s stunning and I never get tired of looking at it. It brings me back to Ireland every time I see it .
