Donegal
Donegal is about as far from Kerry as you can get without leaving the country, and every kilometre of that drive north feels like a crossing into somewhere wilder. The coastline up there is relentless. Huge Atlantic cliffs at Slieve League dropping nearly 600 metres into the sea, empty beaches at Maghera where you might not see another person all day, and Malin Head pushing out into the ocean at Ireland's northernmost point.
I keep coming back for the light. Winter storms clearing over Fanad Head lighthouse, or a midsummer sunset that refuses to end. It's a place where the sky does remarkable things, often when you least expect it.
These photographs are drawn from trips over many years, each one involving a long haul from Cork. But Donegal has a way of rewarding the effort, and I never once regretted making the drive!
