The photograph
Aurora, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland

Letters from the Landscape

I've photographed Jökulsárlón several times, but never in conditions quite like this. The lagoon was dead calm, no wind at all, and the aurora came on strong in green and teal bands that reflected cleanly off the water. You could see the colour twice over, sky and surface, with ice fragments picking up that same cold light.

The glacier and snow-covered mountains behind held steady while the aurora shifted and pulsed overhead. Clouds moved through in patches but kept breaking apart, letting the stars come through between bursts. It was properly freezing, the kind of cold where your fingers stop cooperating after a few minutes at the tripod. But you don't leave when the sky looks like that. You stay, and you keep shooting!

Before you buy

When will it arrive?

You'll get an email with tracking as soon as it ships. If it's for a date, a birthday, an anniversary or a new home, add a note at checkout or email me at info@petercox.ie. I'll do my best to prioritise it and give you a realistic timeline.

What does shipping cost?

Free on orders over €75. Below that, you'll see the exact cost at checkout before you pay. Every parcel is tracked and insured. Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any local duty is the buyer's to pay.

Does the size include the frame?

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.

Which finish should I choose?
  • Unframed Museum-quality Giclée print on archival cotton rag paper. Choose your own frame.

  • Canvas Gallery-wrapped canvas.
  • Floating Panel Mounted on a 3 mm aluminium composite panel, made in-house. Frameless, no glass, ready to hang. Best for modern interiors and maximum impact.

★★★★★Aurora, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland,
I am absolutely thrilled at my purchase of this Icelandic scene, which is taking pride of place in our home. Having purchased 2 Irish Prints previously from the gallery, this adds a new spectacular scene to our home.
