Wicklow
Wicklow has a way of catching you off guard. You drive an hour south of Dublin and suddenly you're standing in a glacial valley with a round tower rising from the trees and not a sound but wind and jackdaws. Glendalough does that to people. It certainly did it to me the first time I visited, years ago, and I've kept going back since.
The Wicklow Mountains have a wildness that surprises anyone expecting a gentle garden. Frost on the boardwalks of the Spinc in January, low cloud dragging across Lough Tay, the Great Sugar Loaf catching the last copper light of a winter afternoon. It's a landscape that rewards patience and early starts!
This collection gathers my favourite photographs from across Wicklow, from the ancient monastic ruins at Glendalough to the drama of Powerscourt Waterfall and the open bogland of the Sally Gap.
