I'd walked the quieter southern stretch for a while that evening, looking for something to anchor the foreground, when I found this layered rock formation sitting in the shallows. Flat, textured, almost like pages of a book fanned open by the tide. Exactly what I needed. I got the tripod down low, right at the waterline, barely above the wash. The waves were gentle enough to give the water some life without flooding the composition.
Then the sky did something remarkable. Long lines of cloud radiating outward from the horizon, fanning across the entire frame. You can't plan for that. You can only be there when it happens.
What I love about this image is how everything connects. The rough texture of that rock against smooth wet sand. The cloud pattern pulling your eye from the foreground all the way to Mizen Head and the green slope running down to the water. In a large print, you can even pick out the offshore wind farm on the horizon, which gives it an unexpected sense of scale. Simple composition, but the tide was right, the light was right, and I knew fairly quickly which frame it was going to be!

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
