This image was made on a fine October's evening. It is looking east over Lough Eighter in the Coomloughra valley in the Macgillycuddy's Reeks. The peaks of Caher, Carrauntoohil and Beenkeragh, three of the tallest mountains in ireland, dot the ridge which towers over this high valley.

The Blasket Islands extend in a chain from the end of the Dingle peninsula in Co. Kerry. Seen here from the pass between Mount Eagle and Cruach Mhartain, the Great Blasket (An Blascaod Mór) snakes across the ocean, with Inishtearaght (An Tiaracht) to its right. Inishvickillane (Inis Mhic Aoibhleáin) is in shadow just to its left.

Skellig Michael is perhaps Ireland's most alluring location. Wild and untamed, it was home to a monastery of ascetic monks from about the 6th to the 13th century.
This image was made from across Christ's Saddle between the two peaks of the island, looking towards the North Peak, which is where the monastery is located.

Lough Leane is the largest of the Lakes of Killarney, and is seen here looking from Reen Pier near Ross Castle towards the Purple Mountain group (consisting of Tomies, Purple and Shehy mountains).
The Lakes are world famous for their beauty and I've long been looking for an image that conveyed the scale and calmness of this area. It wasn't until fairly recently that the combination of clouds, calm water and warm light made this photograph possible.

This image shows detail of the sound between Valentia and the mainland. The bridge that links the island to Portmagee can be clearly seen. The bridge was built in 1970, and previously a ferry ran from the village. At the eastern end of the island, a ferry still runs, connecting that side with the town of Cahersiveen.
In the distance, the snow-capped peaks of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Ireland’s highest mountain range, huddle together beneath a squall.

The Upper Lake, one of the famous Lakes of Killarney, is probably the most scenic. This is a classic view, looking out over the Macgillycuddy's Reeks from a location used by the lake's boatmen to tie up at the end of the day. Snow rests on the mountains on a fresh winter's day.

Cruach Mhór is, in my opinion, the most beautiful of the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, the highest mountains in Ireland. While Carrauntoohil may be the tallest, nothing compares to the pinnacle of Cruach Mhór for sheer presence.
The pointed object on the summit is actually a grotto built by a local man who hauled the cement, water and all other building materials up from the base of the mountain on his own back. A true demonstration of faith and resolve. The statue of Mary within is often smashed by the winter gales, but is replaced by climbers in the spring.
This image was made on a changeable day where the clouds were swirling around the high peaks. From across Lough Leane I could see the summit being occasionally revealed and really enjoyed the mood of the scene. My favourite image was this one, made with a 200mm lens to really isolate the mountain.

Geokaun Mountain is the highest point on Valentia Island. In this classic panoramic view looking east, Fort Point and the Valentia lighthouse are visible in the bottom right. Beginish Island and Doulus Head also make an appearance.
I was even able to bribe some sheep to wander into the frame at left for the authentic rural Irish experience!
