Letters from the Landscape

I'd been sitting out for the best part of two hours, nose running, hands numb, increasingly convinced I should take up indoor hobbies. Heavy cloud all afternoon. The kind where you eat a sandwich in the car and question your life choices.

Then twenty minutes before the sun dropped, it found a gap along the western horizon and came through hard and fast at a low angle across the water. Puffin Island has those two distinct peaks rising from the Atlantic with surf breaking white around the base, and from above the scale of it is properly apparent. But what made this frame was everything happening around it. Dark storm cloud banked up to the right, warm orange light breaking through on the left, and the Skelligs sitting out on the horizon, glowing. They went from grey silhouettes to something golden in the space of a minute.

Three or four minutes of frantic shooting before the gap closed and it went flat again. That's really all it comes down to. You show up enough evenings in a row, and eventually one of them delivers. This one delivered!

What does shipping cost?

I ship worldwide, and every print from Exhibition size up goes free to Ireland, the UK and Europe. Studio prints and books carry a small charge, and the cost for the size you've chosen is shown under the Add to Cart button. The full table is on our Shipping page, and you'll see the exact cost at checkout before you pay. Every parcel is tracked and insured. Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any import duty or tax is the buyer's to pay.

Does the size include the frame?

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
