The photograph

Letters from the Landscape

I spent a long time looking at this glacier before I raised the camera. From the edge of the fjord, the scale of the thing is difficult to process. It fills the entire valley between dark, bare rock peaks, and the flow lines and medial moraines trace its path downhill like a record of every century it's been moving.

The water was completely flat. Not a breath of wind. That faint warmth near the horizon was the midnight sun doing its slow circuit, and the diffuse light picked out every ridge and dark streak of debris across the ice. You could read this glacier's entire history from where I was standing!

At the snout, the ice just meets the fjord. No drama, no calving. Just the quiet end of something vast, still arriving.

What does shipping cost?

Free on orders over €75. Below that, you'll see the exact cost at checkout before you pay. Every parcel is tracked and insured. Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any local duty is the buyer's to pay.

Does the size include the frame?

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
