Aurora Borealis

The first time I saw the northern lights was in northern Iceland, on a freezing night near Akureyri. I'd driven two hours on icy roads with no guarantee of anything. Then the sky just opened up. Green at first, then purple, then colours I couldn't name. I stood there for a long time before I remembered to press the shutter.

That unpredictability is what draws me back. You can check the forecasts, plan everything, drive into the dark, and see nothing. Or you step outside on a night you'd written off and the whole sky is moving. You can't control it. You just have to be there, ready, and willing to lose sleep!

This collection gathers my favourite aurora images from Iceland and the Norwegian archipelago of Lofoten. Cold hands, long nights, and skies that made every frozen hour worthwhile.
