Letters from the Landscape

We'd been moving slowly through loose pack ice for most of the morning when we spotted this walrus, alone on a low floe with nothing else around it for as far as I could see. Heavy cloud, flat light, the water barely moving. The kind of Arctic conditions where everything goes quiet and grey and you start to lose track of where the sea ends and the sky begins.

The walrus had its head down, completely at rest. Not a care in the world. We drifted as close as we could without disturbing it, and I was struck by how small that floe actually was. A jagged ridge of ice near the centre, the animal settled to one side, and then just open water in every direction. The even light was good for picking up detail in the ice and the walrus's heavy, wrinkled skin. I'm glad I had the time to get this right!

What does shipping cost?

Free on orders over €75. Below that, you'll see the exact cost at checkout before you pay. Every parcel is tracked and insured. Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any local duty is the buyer's to pay.

Does the size include the frame?

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
