The photograph

Letters from the Landscape

Scoresby Sound is the largest fjord system on Earth, and the icebergs that drift through it are on a scale that's difficult to convey. These formations were scattered across calm water in soft twilight, the sun low enough to push warm colour through the upper sky while fog sat heavy at the horizon.

What struck me was the silence. The water was completely still, and the bergs just stood there, massive and sculptural, their vertical faces catching that residual light. Some had been carved into ledges and shelves by wave action and melt. Others were sheer and blocky, freshly calved.

I made this photograph from the ship as we drifted slowly through the sound. The fog gave the scene real depth, separating each iceberg into its own plane. East Greenland is a remarkable place!

What does shipping cost?

Free on orders over €75. Below that, you'll see the exact cost at checkout before you pay. Every parcel is tracked and insured. Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any local duty is the buyer's to pay.

Does the size include the frame?

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
