The photograph

Letters from the Landscape

Mývatn in northern Iceland, midwinter. The lake was perfectly still that night, not a breath of wind, and the temperature was well below freezing. The aurora arrived in slow, building waves before erupting into these broad green curtains that stretched right across the sky.

What caught my eye was the lenticular cloud sitting low over the lake, lit from above by the aurora itself. The snow-covered lava formations along the shoreline picked up just enough ambient light to hold detail without losing the darkness of the water. Stars visible off to the right where the sky was clear.

It's a remarkable combination of elements. The calm water, the volcanic landscape under snow, and that extraordinary light overhead. Mývatn delivers like few other places I've photographed!

What does shipping cost?

Free on orders over €75. Below that, you'll see the exact cost at checkout before you pay. Every parcel is tracked and insured. Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any local duty is the buyer's to pay.

Does the size include the frame?

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
