Letters from the Landscape

Four kilometres off the tip of the Beara Peninsula, standing on the Bull Rock itself, looking back towards home. The Cow sits centre frame, the Calf to its right with that broken-off lighthouse stump, and Dursey Island stretches across the background like a long, low wall.

Getting out to the Bull at all is an achievement. You need the right weather, the right sea, and someone willing to make the run. So when you're there, you work everything you can. And yet this particular image came from a moment of calm rather than urgency. Grey day, heavy cloud, no sun at any point. I had the filters on and let the exposure run for over ninety seconds. The sea went completely smooth, like polished stone. The clouds picked up these beautiful subtle textures as they drifted overhead during the exposure, just enough variation to keep the sky from going blank.

Three islands, a flat sea, a heavy sky. Almost nothing happening, and that's precisely the point. I made several compositions from this spot but kept coming back to this one. It's one of my favourites from the whole trip!

What does shipping cost?

Free on orders over €75. Below that, you'll see the exact cost at checkout before you pay. Every parcel is tracked and insured. Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any local duty is the buyer's to pay.

Does the size include the frame?

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
