Letters from the Landscape
I made this photograph on a rare summer night when the sky cooperated fully. The rocks in the foreground are wet and sharp, catching just enough ambient light to hold their shape against the sand. A long exposure smoothed the water into something quiet, letting the galaxy do the work. The distant light on the horizon is Galley Head lighthouse, throwing its beam across the surface.
It's a favourite stretch of coastline, and this is how I like it best. Empty, dark, and full of stars!

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.

After being so drawn to this photo on my monitor, I wondered if an actual print might be too dark. Happily, I needn't have worried at all. This print actually takes on a life of its own on my wall. Depending upon the ambient light in the room, it goes from a shot of the Milky Way glowing in a pitch-dark sky, to a sky teeming with stars softly lighting up the shoreline. I absolutely love it.
