Letters from the Landscape
What stopped me here was the wall. It runs from the foreground right under that lone tree and carries your eye through the patchwork of fields beyond, over the rolling hills and out towards the water. A natural leading line. The kind you don't have to manufacture. You just have to notice it.
The tree was in full leaf, which is exactly what you want with infrared. Chlorophyll reflects infrared light intensely, so healthy foliage glows bright white against everything else. That single tree, leaning with years of Atlantic wind behind it, became the anchor for the whole composition. The fields beyond picked up the same glow, each one separated by dark stone walls, creating this layered patchwork effect I find genuinely beautiful.
I love this part of Mayo. The landscape is open and honest. Stone walls, rough grass, scattered trees. Nothing hidden. The infrared rendering strips the colour away and lets the tonal relationships do the talking. Five minutes after I made this photograph, I was soaking wet. But I had what I needed!

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
