Letters from the Landscape
Dún na mBó sits on the western edge of the Belmullet peninsula, exposed to everything the Atlantic can throw at it. I've spent years exploring this coastline, and it keeps pulling me back. This spot is one of the reasons. A natural amphitheatre of rock, with a blowhole and a cluster of small sea stacks rising from the wash. They're not enormous. They punch well above their weight for drama.
I set up on the cliff edge above the inlet, drawn to a V-shaped notch in the lichen-covered rock directly below me. It framed everything perfectly, channelling the eye down through the foreground and out towards those dark, jagged boulders standing in the swell. The light was flat and cool, heavy cloud diffusing everything evenly. Exactly what I wanted. Direct sun would have blown the highlights on the water and killed the mood entirely.
I slowed the shutter right down and let the ocean do its work. The water rendered into this beautiful textured froth, wrapping around the base of each stack, filling every channel. The rocks stayed razor sharp against all that motion. A small place making a very large statement, and chances are you could visit on any given day and have it entirely to yourself!

Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
