Letters from the Landscape
Rabbit Island sits just off Myross on the south coast of Cork, and I'd driven down early for the Atlantic Light project with a loose plan to work this stretch of coastline. Nothing specific in mind. The sun made one attempt to push through the cloud layer, low on the horizon, throwing a soft diffused glow across the water before being swallowed entirely. A few minutes of light, then nothing for the rest of the day.
But those few minutes were enough. The turquoise shallows over sand on the southern shore, the deeper teal where the reef drops away, the green plateau with its brown winter grass. That little circular glow of the sun fighting through cloud, reflected on the water. No drama, no big sky moment. All colour and texture and the remarkable shape of the island itself, with scattered rocks extending into the sea like it's slowly reaching outward.
This has become one of my favourite photographs I've ever made. It reminds me that the best work comes from just showing up when everything tells you not to bother!

Within the EU there's no customs duty; outside it, any import duty or tax is the buyer's to pay.
Yes. A framed size is the whole frame, edge to edge: 3 inches bigger each way than the print inside it. An unframed size is the sheet of paper, including the white border where I sign and title each print by hand. Canvas and Floating Panel sizes are the face of the piece.
